Things to do

We can suggest itineraries for you or if have your own ideas we can make the arrangements, just book your flight and we'll take care of the rest! Here's a taster of some of the activities available:

  • Mountain Biking
    We can arrange bike and vehicle hire, mechanic and support vehicles
  • Painting and photography
    Wide range of landscapes, portrait and village scenes available
  • Sahara Trips
    4 x 4 and camel trips into the desert. Bookings September to May. Only 1 night stays are suited to July and August taking a camel ride in the cooler part of the evening returning in the morning. For Sahara trips 4 x 4s and camels are required.
  • Homestay in Sahara -
  • Camping
    We arrange mules required to carry baggage and tents etc.
  • Cultural experience and study stays
    Living with a family, visiting the local souk (Thursdays), immersing yourself in local culture, cultural studies (lifestyle and ceremonial aspects around particular activities), journalism, photography, etc. Project related trips helping the local community. We cannot offer language placements as Tighza is too far from any language schools.
  • Various walking options from easy to medium difficulty
    Mountain,village, lake, valley walks, longer several day fossil walks, mule treks between locations, short , half day, 1 day walks and treks for days etc.
  • Cooking with families or in the Kasbah

Le Grande Traversée

Short section of Le Grande Traversée with qualified mountain guide who speaks English and French

Day 1 Pick up from Marrakech by 4 x 4. Travel to Ait Ali N'Itto. Homestay or family gite.

Day 2 Walk with a mule and your guide via Tassaout and Megdaz one of the oldest villages in High Atlas to Tagokht stay in family gite

Day 3 Walk to Lake Tamda. Camp overnight. (Option of bartering for a sheep or goat for Meshui)

Day 4 Walk to Tighza and stay in Riad Kasbah Oliver or Homestay

Day 5 Depart or spend the day exploring (enough different walks and treks locally to keep you occupied for at least a week)

Local sites of interest

Telouet Kasbah, Thursday Souk, Wednesday Animal, Lake Tamda, Kasbahs in Animeter (reportedly the most fortified Village in Morocco), salt mines, caves (Assaka), waterfalls.

Areas of interest for astrology and geology.

Help making a carpet in a local home. (See Project Page ) Learn to make tagine, couscous, harira or Moroccan bread.

Berber music evenings (when groups are staying). Opportunity to attend fetes for weddings and births (Something not usually available unless you are staying with a family) - subject to events happening during your visit).


Accommodation prices on application

  • Half Day Walk with local person £10
  • Full Day Walk with local person £20
  • Full Day walk with English speaking Guide £40
  • 4 x 4 Marrakech to Tighza £100 (includes pick up from accommodation or the airport)
  • 4 x 4 charge per day for taking you to other locations is between £100 and £167 depending on the distance to your destination; this includes fuel, road tolls and services of chauffeur, stopping at places of interest on route. This price does not include tips for chauffeur or entrance fees to places which charge for entry
  • Mule hire for a full day including mule handler £15
  • For larger family groups our pricing is flexible, please advise of size of family and age of children


Tipping is normal in Morocco. Please tip women at homestay families and the Kasbah (amount at your discretion)

  • Guides (around 100dh a day)
  • 4 x 4 drivers (100dh to 150dh per day)
  • mule handlers (50dh a day)
  • Small tips are given for service at cafes and restaurants and it is customary to leave a dirham for using public toilets.
